How to Get Your Clinic or Hospital Found on Google in Nigeria

Think about the last time you needed a service you did not already have a provider for. A plumber, a mechanic, a good restaurant in a new city. Most people pick up their phone and search.
Patients do the same. Someone wakes up with a child running a fever, or a man finally decides to get that blood pressure checked, and the first move is often a search like “clinic near me” or “good hospital in Warri.”
If your clinic does not show up, that patient goes to the one that does. It does not matter how good your doctors are.
The good news is that being found on Google does not need a huge budget. Most of it comes down to a few basics done properly.
1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
This is the single most useful free thing you can do.
When people search for a clinic nearby, Google shows a map with a short list of results. Those listings come from Google Business Profiles. If you have not claimed yours, you are probably missing from that list or showing up with wrong details.
Once you have claimed it, fill in everything:
- Your exact name, address, and phone number
- Opening hours, including public holidays and emergency hours
- The services you offer, in plain words
- Real photos of your building, reception, rooms and team
- The right category, such as “Clinic,” “Hospital,” or “Pharmacy”
Half-filled profiles look unfinished, and patients notice. Check it every few months, because hours and phone numbers change.
2. Make sure your details match everywhere
Google trusts information that is consistent. If your clinic is “St. Mary’s Medical Centre” on Google, “St Marys Clinic” on Facebook, and has a different phone number on your website, it gets confusing for both the search engine and the patient.
Pick one version of your name, address, and phone number and use it everywhere: your website, social pages, directories, and printed materials.
3. Ask patients for reviews, and reply to them
Reviews matter more than most clinic owners expect. People read them, and they influence who gets called.
Asking is not awkward when you do it simply. A front desk staff member can say, “If you were happy with your visit, it would help us a lot if you left a short review on Google,” and share the link. Do not offer gifts in exchange for reviews, and never write fake ones. It backfires, and it is the wrong way to build trust in healthcare.
Reply to every review, including the bad ones. Stay calm and polite, and never share any detail about a patient’s care in a public reply. A thoughtful response to a complaint often says more about your clinic than ten five-star ratings.
4. Have a simple website that answers real questions
You do not need a complicated website. You need one that loads quickly on a phone, because that is how most Nigerians browse, and that answers the things patients actually want to know:
- What services do you offer?
- Where are you, and how do I get there?
- What are your opening hours?
- How do I book, or who do I call?
- Who are the doctors and nurses?
Give each major service its own page. A page called “Antenatal Care in Lagos” has a far better chance of appearing in search than a single page that lists twenty services in one paragraph.
Put your phone number and a WhatsApp link where people can see them without scrolling. Many patients would rather send a message than make a call.
5. Write content that answers what people ask
People search for health information before they ever look for a provider. They ask about symptoms, costs, preparation for a procedure, or whether something is serious.
If your clinic publishes clear, accurate answers to those questions, you become the place people learn from, and often the place they choose to visit. Keep it simple. Write the way your doctor or nurse would explain it across a desk. Have a clinician review anything medical before it goes out, and avoid promising cures or guaranteed results.
6. Mention the places you serve
Google wants to know who you are relevant to. If you serve patients in Warri, Effurun and Ughelli, say so on your website, in the same plain way you would tell a patient. Mention landmarks, bus stops or well-known junctions that help people find you.
7. Be patient, and track what happens
Unlike paid ads, search visibility builds slowly. You may not see a big change in the first few weeks. But clinics that keep their profile updated, collect honest reviews and publish useful pages tend to get a steadier flow of enquiries over time.
Track the basics: how many calls and direction requests come from your Google profile, how many people visit your website, and what patients say when you ask, “How did you hear about us?” That last question is free and often more honest than any dashboard.
A quick checklist
- Claim your Google Business Profile and fill in every field
- Use the same name, address, and phone number everywhere
- Ask happy patients for reviews, and reply to all of them
- Build a fast, mobile-friendly website with a page for each key service
- Add a visible phone number and WhatsApp link
- Publish simple, accurate health content
- Name the areas you serve
